RODENTS

Rats and mice can be a common pest in many environments and if left unmanaged they can rapidly reproduce. Rodents can cause damage to property and products, contaminate surfaces with droppings and urine as well as spreading diseases such as leptospirosis and salmonellosis.
At SLR Pest Management i utilise a variety of methods when it comes to rodent control such as trapping, shooting, exclusion and the use of rodenticides. I try to limit rodenticide use as much as possible and will only utilise it when other methods of control have not been effective at resolving the issue. I always think of wildlife and the surrounding environment when carrying out rodent treatments and minimise rodenticide use as much as possible. Rodent riddance treatments are usually carried out as a three part treatment (3 visits) and usually the issue can be resolved in this time. In situations where the issue is not resolved in three visits, additional visits may be required and this can be discussed. Rodent ingress points will be identified and recommendations will be made for proofing works to be carried out. I can offer rodent proofing services if required.
MOLES

Moles can become a pest in gardens, paddocks and agricultural environments if they are left unmanaged. Mole hills can becomes unsightly and make mowing difficult and their underground network of tunnels can make the ground uneven and unstable posing a risk to people, pets and livestock. As well as this mole hills can also contaminate grass crops with listeria bacteria which can be found in the soil that moles push up to the surface, this can then impact any livestock that graze or feed on the grass crop.

At SLR Pest Management i am a traditional mole trapper and carry out mole trapping treatments with the use of traps to remove moles from land where they are causing damage. Mole trapping is discreet, safe for pets and livestock, has minimal impact on land and does not impact the environment as no chemicals or pesticides are used!
GREY SQUIRRELS

Grey Squirrels are an invasive species in the UK and can become a pest in many different environments. They cause significant damage to trees by stripping tree bark which weakens and kills the tree which can have an impact on our native woodland. As well as this grey squirrels raid birds nests for eggs/fledglings, eat tree nuts/buds/fruits and dig up bulbs all of which have a negative impact on the biodiversity of the area. Grey squirrels are responsible driving the native Red squirrel population to localised extinction by outcompeting the red squirrel for food and habitat and by carrying the squirrel pox virus which grey squirrels are immune to, but is lethal to red squirrels. Grey squirrels can become a pest in woodland and gardens digging up grass, bulbs and causing damage to trees. When grey squirrels find their way into properties they can causes significant gnawing damage to timber, cables, pipes etc as well as contaminating surfaces with dropping and urine which can potentially spread diseases such as salmonella and leptospirosis. It is also possible for grey squirrels to carry ticks which spread the bacteria causing lyme disease as well as fleas.

At SLR Pest Management i carry out squirrel trapping treatments with the use of approved instant kill spring traps. In sensitive environments live catch traps are used, however any grey squirrels caught in live catch traps will be humanely dispatched as it is illegal to release them due to them being an invasive species. As well as trapping i also use shooting as a method of grey squirrel control if the environment allows this to be done safely.
RABBITS

Rabbits can become a pest in a variety of environments if they are left unmanaged. Rabbits dig burrows known as warrens which can cause significant damage to land. Rabbit warrens can make the ground uneven and unstable and their under ground tunnels can weaken ground posing a risk to people, pets and livestock. As well as this rabbits can also burrow underneath structures which can weaken the structure and cause damage to property. In an agricultural or garden environment rabbits can cause significant damage to crops and plants.

At SLR Pest Management i carry out rabbit control with a variety of different methods. Trapping treatments can be carried out with the use of approved spring traps and live catch traps depending on the environment. Shooting treatments can be carried out if environment allows this to be done safely. Another method of rabbit control that i can offer is ferreting. This involves the use of ferrets which are introduced into the rabbit warrens. The ferrets then flush any rabbits inside the warrens out into nets which are strategically placed around the warrens, the rabbits can then be quickly and humanely dispatched. ferreting is a good natural method of rabbit control as no chemicals or pesticides are used. It is very discreet and can be implemented in areas where other methods of control are not possible.
WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT

As well as covering pest species commonly found within UK homes and businesses, i can also offer the below wildlife management services which i hold the relevant certification, training and experience in:
Fox control (shooting and trapping).
Deer control (shooting).
Mink trapping.
